Update log, 10 May '13

FW1:

Chest logs where disabled they are enabled again
Garbage collection added which means no more memory leaking crashes.
The host added a check if there are 0 players online and will then restart the server.
Previously the server crashed but the CPU was still running to the server didn't automatic restart.
Now it will detect that there are 0 players online when it crashes and will also auto restart it.
This should mean no more downtime and so far it's going great.
Disguises now show name tags above the mob.
Health bars added to players and mobs when you hit them.
Updated the server to 1.5.2
Banks can now store items with all meta data like enchanted books, heads, firework etc..
maxu1234 has been demoted to moderator.

FW2:

We decided to make a quicker version of FW2,
This means we will spent less time on things like the map and things like plugins and buildings. We will probably add FWSkills while the server is running already since pqqqqq is going away for 2+ months in about 2 months. The 2 most time consuming tasks for FW2 are the spawns and the map and we decided to make them less advanced as we planned this means we might be able to release FW2 within 2 months.
Pretty much finished the biome map. See forums for the map.
Builders have worked on custom trees and structures.
pqqqqq finished FWSkills framework
for experience and experience, earning methods (actions), saving to MySQL, commands & more.
God has started with the spawns for dwarf/gnome and the main spawn.

Events:

Big FWInv update,
We use this plugin for teams and custom inventories for events. With this new update we are now be able to do the following:
* Team respawn points if you die that you respawn in the region instead of spawning at spawn.
* Force teams on players so we can have not equal teams.
* Run commands on all players in a team so we can can give different teams different things etc.
* Run commands when you enter regions so we can give potion effects and register you in a event so we can check for relogging and dying if you are in a certain event only.
* Save FWInv inventories when you relog in the region instead of resetting it.
* Turn the custom inventory on/off for each region.
New minigame event on the main server: BowSpleef
in this event the floor becomes TNT and you use a bow with firearrows to shoot the TNT away under the other players their feet. This will make them fall and same as spleef last men standing wins!
New minigame event on the main server: Herobrine
In this event 1 player becomes herobrine and the reset are survivors the survivors need to kill the herobrine but the herobrine is invisible and stronger then the survivors first team that kills the other team wins. Sadly because of the FWInv updates we couldn't host or test this yet we will probably start hosting this in the weekend.
HungerGames system changed so it doesn't crash anymore and updated to 1.5.2.
CTF system changed so it doesn't crash anymore and updated to 1.5.2.
DvZ updated to 1.5.2.
Building Competition updated to 1.5.2.
DvZ dyes are now 60% instead of 25% so more chance to get other dyes then builder.
New big event: TowerControl
we have created a new big event named TowerControl. In this event there are 2 teams, Team good and Team evil. Both teams have the same goal and this is to destroy all towers from the enemy. There are 3 lanes with 3 towers on each lane so a total of 9 towers that need to be destroyed. After all 9 towers are destroyed the main tower can be destroyed. The first team that destroys the main tower wins. While playing you earn gold and you can use this gold in the stores to buy items and more! And there are 10 classes 5 for each team and you choose this class before the game starts. A class gives you 3 abilities and a starting kit.
TowerControl update for shops
items are more balanced and more valuable items more expensive.

Other:

We have had a big staff meeting.
Some things that we have talked about and changes etc:
* Staff will follow the player rules mostly related to chat and cursing etc etc.
* Staff will be more respectful to each other.
* Staff will play games/events together in the weekends to keep the relation between staff good.
For this we have also created a steam group and you can join it as well see point below.
* We now have a Updates log for staff where we post quick updates so all staff can know what's going on for better communication since our staff Skype chat is often flooded :p
* Higher ranked staff will to motivate and tell lower ranked staff members more what to do. This means more work will get done by different ranked members.
* Staff ranks now do what their rank needs to do instead of other ranks like all admins need to know how to administrate the server and each staff member knows their responsibilities now.
* Staff will take more initiative to do things instead of asking me or David first.
* Inactive staff or staff that breaks often rules will be demoted easier even if they have a important role or if i like them a lot if they don't fit on the staff anymore they are demoted.
We have created a fantasywar steam group.
You can join it and in the weekends we will play games with the entire staff and you might also be able to join for most games.
And we will also play events on other servers and do other stuff together and we will announce it all on steam.
We have had a 24 hour livestream thanks to everyone who came by and hope you will all come when we do another!

New event!

You might have missed some of us last week.

This is because we have created a new event.

Since we took CTI down we thought u guys still deserved a nice new event.

And this will give us more variation during the livestream.

We have kept this secret till now but it's as good as done and it's nice to play so i thought it's time to share it!

We are not gonna describe the event from bottom to top yet but here is a short description:

There are 2 teams and each team has 5 different classes and when you start the game you choose your class.

Your goal is to earn gold and destroy towers.

Destroying towers has to be done in a specific method and is quite hard.

There are 3 different lanes with each 3 towers on it for both teams so each team has 9 towers.

When all towers are destroyed the main tower in the main base can be destroyed.

Each class has 2 active and 1 passive ability and the abilities are really really awesome compared to other events :D

There are stores in your base and spread out on the map where you can buy extra items on top of your class items.

There is many more to tell but you should just try it out yourself this Saturday!

We might do 1 test round this Friday already but Saturday we will host a lot if it's working!

The event is called TowerControl btw :)

FW2

This month we have started working on FW2

Mostly planning and working out stuff.

But we have also started making stuff like plugins, buildings and worked on the map.

We have already released often info related FW2.

But here it is once again in this document you can find all details for FW2 and comment if you want to.

Website

This month we have changed the website completely!

The site theme is now completely custom and not just a theme from enjin that hundreds of sites are using.

There might still be some issues related to the theme please report them below in the comments.

Server Issues

Once again this month we have had a lot issues.

This time it where the many many crashes and the downtime.

I have been asking the host daily last week to fix stuff.

And it seems like it's finally getting fixed.

Last 3 days it didn't went down anymore and when it did it was back up within 30 seconds.

The host is still improving some automatic restarting scripts but it seems to be working pretty good now.

Hopeful the server will stay online 24/7 from now on again!

We are sorry for all extra downtime and we are doing our best to solve it all!

New voting system!

We have a "new" voting system.

The system isn't really new but the rewards are.

We have removed the points system and the points store.

This made it only confusing and people did think it was useless to vote.

So now you will earn gold for voting and commenting!

You can earn 1500 gold every day and this is a lot!

750 for 5 votes and 750 for 1 comment.

So if you want to spent less time just comment 1 time to get 750 gold!

All points will be converted to money.

FW1:

New voting system see above.
Most bugs related to auto restarting fixed. (Hopefully)
Fixed logblock, It was overloaded often so a lot data didn't get saved.
Fixed [News] messages so entire server can read them now.
Updated the server to bukkit Beta build R0.2
/bank show has been fixed (Crashed server before)

FW2:

Worked some more on the new map. (The image used to generate the biomes)
We had another meeting to work out skills system, empires and a lot more. (See document)
Builders have worked on custom trees and structures.
pqqqqq has started developing FWSkills.
FWSpawner has been made. (This allows donators to switch spawner mob types by left clicking the spawner and when placed it will automatic set the spawner to the selected mob type. Only the spawner owner can break it by hand and it will return the spawner if broken by the owner so the owner can then change type and replace it to switch mob types or place it on another place.) This means admins are no longer needed to handle spawner issues. They can still be broken by others with tnt and other explosions etc.

Events:

No updates
This week i will fix HG, CTF and some other bugs.

Other:

Website redesigned it's now way darker as you can see. Use the poll on right to rate it please.

Update log, 14 April '13

This is the first update log we are doing.

We will post these update logs very often from now on and tell you everything that's going on.

From the main server to events we will share everything.

The goal for this is that the community has input while it's happening.

We have stopped the development of CTI.

We are very sorry to announce this message, however, it's the best thing we can do right now.

We have lots of plans for the main FantasyWar server.

And it's our main priority to complete them first.

CTI has been completed for the most part, but we have tested the gameplay, and it wasn't very suspenseful or exciting.

So we will have to remake the entire gameplay.

This will take up a lot time and effort, and is not worth it right now.

However, we aren't giving up on this project completely.

But when we resume development on the project is indifferent.

Once again, we are very sorry for the false hope.

And we hope that we can make FW main a big success again!

FW2

You might have heard a little about it.

But we just want to clear a few things up.

People are getting confused and are wondering about a reset etc.

So here a few facts about FW2:

* We aren't releasing any info about it yet.

*There is no eta but it will take several months.

*The update will be huge most systems will be changed.

*The server will stay RP/PvP.

*There won't be a map reset any time soon.

CTI

This month we have released the CTI website.

We hoped to release it earlier and hoped to have the entire project already released.

But because of a lot issues it was delayed.

But the site is online now as you may know.

We plan to start testing fairly soon so keep an eye on the cti website.

Server Issues

Since 1.5 we are having several issues on the server.

Like banks, events, regen chests, many crashes, ram leaking etc etc.

It's taking a lot of my time to try solve the issues but not that much luck yet.

The other projects and things are also delayed because of this.

But fixing this things is my first priority so hopeful it can be solved soon.

Sorry for the issues and for the delay on other things wish it would be different as well.

Builders

Today we opened builder applications.

Only_God is very busy with all builders and it's getting more and more.

So we are looking for more builders to help him.

Don't worry you can just update your client.

You can join any 1.5 server even if your on 1.5.1.

So update your client and enjoy a smoother game play.

They fixed a lot bugs regarding performance like the smooth lighting setting etc.

Map corruption & Elysian spawn

Hello everyone,

Sadly we have once again map corruption.

It was completely random this time and no idea how this could happen.

But we gonna have to load a backup.

Sadly there is nobody online at the host atm.

So we can't load backup.

More information will be added later when i have more info about how long the rollback will be etc.

and on another note we are removing elysian spawn.

Lastfatwookie (Old Amin) said he build it but he didn't.

He copied it from another server.

So we are removing it i don't want copied stuff on our server.

So for now the eEysian spawn will stay empty sorry for this.

UPDATE:

Server back online!

Only like 10 chunks have been rolled back.

So you most likely lost nothing!

Sorry for the long downtime but we wanted to prevent more corruption and data loss.

We will update to 1.5 probably later today first want to make sure it's stable again!

Big staff team update!

Hello everyone!

I'm glad to announce that we have a made a hugee staff update!

First of all there have been a lot promotions/demotions.

But we have also changed the entire system completely.

I'm not going in detail about the new system because you can find everything on the updated staff page.

But we have now managers for different sections.

The managers are responsible for certain things and they can recruit players.

There will soon be a lot applications for different roles.

From forum mods to event hosters and way more.

Read all about it on the new staff page.

We have also removed PreMods and removed JrAdmin.

So the server ranks are now Helper, Mod and Admin.

And all other manager and sub roles aren't server ranks.

There are gonna be a lot more changes inside the staff what you won't directly notice.

But we will become more a team and better teamwork and have more different ranks/roles.

This means things are quicker solved and created and done.

Minecraft 1.5

Just about 2 more weeks and then 1.5 will be released!

The big redstone update.

We have already had questions relating map reset.

But we are NOT resetting the map or any data!

We will update the server to 1.5 as soon as bukkit and all plugins we use have updated.

This won't be right after 1.5 is released!

So don't update your client to 1.5 when the client asks for it.

If you do you won't be able to join the server till we have updated.

This is a pretty big update especially for bukkit because entire redstone system changed.

So this will most likely take at least 2 days and probably a week.

So don't update your client and be patient with updating.

Forums

We have been more strict to following the forum rules recently.

It's already going a little better with rule breaking.

But it's still far away from good.

Please read the forum rules again and follow them.

If you break a rule you get a warning.

If you have 2 warnings and break another rule you get a website ban.

Read all about it here.

We have also added a bug report section to the forums.

This is used to report bugs/glitches/exploits etc.

For reporting something valid you will get 5 reward points.

This are the same points as you get for voting.

So report many bugs and you get double profit!

And we will fix the bug, And you get a reward!

Map corruption.

The current map is corrupted :(

This means some players can't log in and this is the reason the server went down.

Me and the host are currently trying to fix the issues.

But if this isn't gonna work we will have to do a rollback.

And this will be a rollback of like 2 days.

When we updated to 1.4.7 so Friday 18:00

We are currently scanning the world and testing to fix it.

Please patience while we try to solve the issues.

We will keep you updated as much as possible!

We have been alive for a year already!

This is great news and we plan to keep going for a long time.

With the MC API coming FantasyWar will at least stay online for 5 years!

Server under attack.

You have probably noticed that the server is currently offline.

This is because our server is getting attacked.

They are ddosing and flooding the server.

This means they overload our network what makes the server crash and unable to turn on.

It are heavy attacks that can't be migrated for now,

The host is doing his best to find solutions to do this.

But for ddos protection and migration we are talking about thousands of euro's.

So we can't just fix this easy.

All we can do now is wait till they stop attacking.

Or wait till the host finds another solution to fix the attacks.

I'm sorry for the downtime but we can't do much about it.

Hope all will be solved soon and that you can play again.

Please don't ask how long it's gonna take.

It can be a minute but also weeks..

Chest rollback.

Hello everyone.

You probably noticed this but there has been a big rollback on the server.

First we thought it was a disk or saving issue untill someone said only chests where rolled back.

And since blocks are stored in the same files as chests are this was really strange.

So this made it easy for me to find the issue.

And it wasn't a server failure or anything like this.

It was what people call humans :p

Before i continue i wanna ask you all to still show respect to this person.

And don't rage at this person.

As i said it's caused by a human and humans make mistakes.

We have a powerful plugin on the server that can rollback certain actions.

This plugin is so powerful that it can even rollback a entire server.

And in this case this power of the plugin have had terrible effects.

So what happened is that TehMagic used a wrong command.

He haven't added a radius or selection to the rollback for chests.

This means it rolled back all chests in the server.

He tried to help someone by rolling back 2 chests 2 days ago.

This ended up in rolling back all chests on the server 2 days.

The plugin only works on loaded chunks which means mostly people online lost stuff.

There is also another "feature" in this plugin.

It stored all actions in logs in a database.

When a rollback is finished it will ask the admin to clear the logs or not.

This means that everything that got rolled back get removed from the logs.

Unfortainly magic typed /yes and cleared the logs after this wrong rollback.

Which means that all logs for chests are gone and the items.

This means i only have 3 options:

1) Do nothing and no refunds.

2) Refund everyone and trust what they say they had.

3) Rollback the entire server 4 days including builds/inventory's etc etc.

Well everyone can guess that the third option isn't really a option.

The second option is also not really a option.

People could just say they lost 1000 diamonds and no way for us to check.

So then all that's left is no refund and this is what will happen.

I'm VERY VERY sorry for this situation and i guess and hope it will never happen again.

magic will make a thread on the forums to say sorry.

But saying sorry doesn't help you guys for sure :/

But i'm afraid that's the only thing we can do/say.

If you donated items and you lost it then please contact me (worstboy32).

Once again sorry for everything and i hope you all understand our decisions.

And as said above don't rage at magic or anything he is a human like you and me.

We are going to remove the digital wiki soon.

It's to much work to update on 2 places.

Instead we will put way more information on the in game wiki pages.

But we can't do this alone!

We have put all help pages on google drive.

This means everyone can edit them and help keep them updates.

We can easy revert abusing and all pages are being reviewed before put on the server.

Please read the instructions before you start editing.

The pages you find there aren't the page in game.

Once most pages are finished the old pages will be removed.

If you sign in with a google account named after your minecraft name and you do a lot edits then you will be rewarded in game with items and even ranks!

So please everyone help edit the pages.

If you find something interesting that you want to share put it in a help page!

And update all empty pages so new players can easy find their way on the server.

Memory leak.

You have probably already heard it.

We have a memory leak issue on the server for a pretty long time now.

This results in a lot crashes and before a lot rollbacks.

The rollback issue has been fixed but there are still a lot crashes.

Soon we will get more ram that will reduce the amount of crashes.

This won't stop the ram leaking away though.

The host did debug the server and found some interesting things.

This is being looked at by some people atm from bukkit.

Somewhere soon there will also be a huge debugging day on the server.

The map will be temporary removed and it will be a vanilla server.

We will add plugins in 1 by 1 to try find out if it's a plugin doing this.

During this time i hope everyone can be patient so i can do the debug good.

If everyone will keep asking when it's back etc etc

then i will probably try finish it to quick and won't find the issue.

This will probably happen Thursday 3 January but more info will come.

It will take probably like 10 hours or maybe more.

Holidays

December is a month full of holidays and special things like Christmas and new years eve.

We have done a lot this year to celebrate this.

And we wanna thank you all for being part of the things we have done.

We also wanna thank you to stick with fantasywar.

We have had some really hard time and a lot of bad things happened.

2012 wasn't the year i hoped for with FantasyWar

But i can't say it was a bad year because the server is still up and running thanks to you all!

2013 will hopefully a better year with a 100% stable server.

I and the other staff have learned a lot from all what happened last year.

Like rollbacks, Staff abusing, Map corruption etc etc.

We now have a good backup system with 2 backups a day and everything is way better secured.

Hope everyone had some great holidays!

And hope 2013 will be even more amazing for everyone!

Wiki

We have had a Wikipedia for the server for a long time.

But we also have the in game wiki pages.

We have decided that this is to much and to hard to keep updated.

Since we can't just post the exact same content on the web wiki and mc wiki.

So we have decided to take down the wikipedia on the internet.

We will be putting all info from the wiki to the help pages in game.

When this is done we will remove the wiki.

We will also try put the help pages digital on some sort of cloud so everyone can edit it,

But we are still trying to find a good way to do this.

Quests

We are adding quests as you probably know.

This has been delayed a lot because Ninja was going to make them but never really did.

Now david took over this tasks and we currently have 25 quests.

This quests will be released soon.

With quests you can earn money and rewards and also more magic spells!

More info about quests will come when the quests are released!

Events

We have added a lot small events back.

People are really enjoying this i think so i'm glad we added them back.

We currentle have: Spleef, KOH, Race, MazeWar & ZombieSurvival.

If you have suggestions for more events please share them.

You can post them on the forums suggestions section.
